England seem to have a production line of young talent at the moment and you have to ask why over the last two years has everything suddenly fallen into place?

In my work I’m in contact with West Indians, Pakistanis and Indians, all they want to talk about is the English cricket team. Everyone can’t believe how good England have become in such a short space of time.

So why the big change? I’m interested in your thoughts.

I think apart from the hard work that ENG have put in, Andy Flower has had a big role to play in England's rise. He has identified the right players and backed them to deliver, that is very important. Earlier we used to see so many players turning out for ENG every series and now it is like we already know well in advance what the ENG line up is going to be, that is how stable ENG have become and the bench strength is pretty good too.

Strauss has also been a very good leader, and the self belief of this team has been amazing, they lost Flintoff and Simon Jones to injuries and those two were such good bowlers, their loss was huge but the way ENG have got over it is admirable. They had even dropped Hoggard when he was doing fairly well and Harmison was simply discarded as they knew they have better bowlers out there to do the job.

More professionalism Flipper.  It's the exact opposite reason why a West Indies is at the bottom.  From watching all those guys just walking into the England team now (the newbies), they don't look like they're new to the game, meaning they look well exposed.  That's down to a professional set up with all the county games they play, and the training.  Nasser Hussain does talk about the supreme fitness that England have been doing lately.  Again, it's why teams like West Indies, Pakistan, India will hardly be #1, professionalism and fitness they don't take too seriously or have.

The systems in place from junior level right up to the test team is first class - something that the ECB can take the credit for.  The players that have progressed through the system and into the test side have shown the qualities that Flower sees as vitally important. On the flip side , he also recognises flaws in the make-up of some players and they are told where they fall short. If those areas aren't addressed he's ruthless and those players are discarded.  Those faults can be technical , pyschological or physical and all are as important as each other. Samit Patel was told he was unfit and overweight and he was very slow to react to that - he didn't feature in any of Flower's sides until he turned it around. He's still not the fittest of players in the setup , but the improvement in his conditioning is easy to see.  Alistair Cook had real problems nicking off to the slips and whilst he wasn't dropped , it was getting close!  Real graft in the nets with Gooch straightened him out and we all saw what that hard work brought in Australia. Ravi Bopara is a natural , but maybe mentally he's not been quite there.  I think he's playing with more freedom now , the shackles are falling off and we might well see him pushing for Morgan's test place , come the new year.
Mental disintegration works for me !!

And also that it is England first for the players and not the county as it used to be a few years back. This keeps the players fit and ready -and makes the players' management relatively easy.

This current England Team has quality batting line up and can score runs on any kind of Pitches in the world that makes their batting line up best, as well bowling they have best bowlers in the world right now and all of them are capable of taking wickets on regular intervals. Another reason for the teams no1 ranking is their fielding hardly we can see them dropping catches.

No doubt that England's bench strength is clearly way better than any other country at the moment, however I think it is all about having right mix of talented players in different skill who can take different roles needed  makes a team a champion team. At the moment England team has all that. The way they are going , looks like unstoppable but none can see whats in store for furtue.

However I think it is really too short a period to come to any conclusion, they have ascended to # 1 spot implies they have played better than any other team in last 12 months that's why they are where they are. Well this is the first part of the story.

Now the second and most important part is, being at #1 and staying there for long considerable time. It is a huge risk at top, blink an eyelid other teams catch you.Staying at # 1 is not a joke.A series draw or loss will peg the team right back, more so if that happens against a lowely ranked team.

I see two challenges ahead for England. First to prove themselves on sub-continent pitches, while the second one a bit easier is next series agaisnt SA and Aus ( they have already done that , but both of them would be hell bent to not to lose to England if not beat them).
Race to No 1 again ... started!

Another thing that's definitely helped is that the system seems to put faith in the players much more than they used to.  Nowadays it's very rare that they make any changes in personnel unless forced to through injury.  Gone are the days when two poor matches in a row would see you dropped.  With the possible exception of Trott, every single player has had a real lean spell at some point in the last couple of years, yet they are rarely, if ever, dropped.  The continuity and trust clearly pays dividends and have made the team mentally strong.  Form is all about confidence and the current set up seems to be much more patient, which means that good form and confidence is more likely to follow...

England team is one of the best now..They have showed improvements on all forms of cricket...Remember how they beat up India on their on place. They have a pretty good batting lineup and a very strong bowling lineup as well. From the last couple of years they have really come up with excellent fielding performances....i  hope they will continue this form through out the year

Only flaw of this English team is the weakness on the dustbowls.  It will really be interesting to see SA vs Eng.  Finn, Anderson, Broad, Tremlett, Bresnan, vs Steyn, Morkel, De Lange, Philander.  There is going to be some serious pace and high quality fast bowling on show, not to mention very classy batsman in Amla, De Villers, Kallis, Trott, KP, Cook etc.

The England has become better team now because both batsmen and bowlers are contributing to the team consistently.
