Dear cric fans I am discussing about a previous incident but it is very important
Sanath Jayasuriya and Chaminda Vaas were left out of Sri Lanka's final World Cup squad of 15 players named by the national selection committee headed by Aravinda de Silva. Jayasuriya and Vaas had been named in the provisional squad of 30, and there was speculation that either one of the two players would make it to the final team. They had indicated to the selectors that they would want to play in another World Cup before announcing their retirements from international cricket. Jayasuriya has been tops at training. He is performing every drill like he did a decade ago Chaminda Vaas too has shown that he has not lost his ability, although he has slowed in pace Also His batting skills have improved and he has shown an opening batsman’s flair in recent times. IS CHAIRMAN’S SELECTION RIGHT OR WRONG?....... Edited by surangarandil - 18 February 2011 at 1:13pm |

Perhaps he feels they are past their sell by date with age against them now? They have been great players and hard to replace, but time catches up with everyone eventually.
IS CHAIRMAN’S SELECTION RIGHT OR WRONG?.......you will know in a few weeks. and welcome t0 the site. |

Agree with flipper, SLN have some very talented young players in their ranks and it is obvious that Sanath and Vaas had to be left out. No wonder that they have been excellent cricketers, among the best of their time, but as flipper has rightly said, time catches up with everyone.
In fact if anyone then I feel Randiv and Maharoof are unlucky to have missed out on WC places because of the competition in the side.

To be honest, the way Vaas has batted lately, I would have been tempted to go with him. I mean, other than Malinga, Sri Lanka's fast bowling stock worries no one. Fernando can cause the occassion heart racer with his pace and bounce now and again, other than that, they are nothing to worry about.
