So dreams do come true fellas - Daryl Harper has retired with immediate effect !! He's rather hacked off because of criticism over his handling of the last India/West Indies match. As I saw it he only made about 6 mistakes - not so bad by his standards.
A long time coming , but for once his decision can't be criticised !! |

Indeed a good thing to have happened. I would love to see Asoka D'Silva following the footsteps.

Harper was pretty good when he first started in Tests, but seemed to get a bit full of self importance after a while, and his decision making in the last few years has been dire.
Asoka has always been useless though, I am sure political correctness is the only reason he got back onto the elite panel. |

Completely agree with Clobber's comments.
Steve Randell and Darryl Hair were both Australia's best decision makers. The former is a criminal and the latter... well we know what happened there. Nonetheless, good to see Taufel is continuing to do a fine job, Australia has produced some decent umpires, but I'm afraid Harper is probably not one of them. |

Asoka just isn't up to the job and I doubt if he ever will be. The grounding that English umpires get via county championship officiating has got to be of great benefit. Just how much experience did the likes of Asoka have before being thrown into a test match - very little I'd expect.
