Hampshire club captain Jimmy Adams has agreed a one-year contract extension to his existing contract which will see him remain at The Rose Bowl for at least a further three seasons.
The 31 year-old could manage only 935 runs at an average of 35.96 during the club’s dismal 2011 campaign, but, before that he had enjoyed prolific seasons in both 2009 and 2010, hitting 1,351 runs during a particularly fruitful 2010 which resulted in him receiving a call-up to that winter’s England Lions program.
The left-hander from Winchester made his Hampshire debut as far back as 1999 when he turned out for their second eleven, and progressed onto a first-team debut three years later. He has also represented England at both Under-15 and Under-19 level, as well as playing for a combined British Universities side and Loughborough University.
Over the past few seasons, Adams has proved remarkably adept at the top of the order in both Championship and limited-overs cricket for Hampshire, and, at the end of last season ̶̶ following the retirement of Dominic Cork ̶ he was appointed as their captain for first-class and list A cricket, with Dimitri Mascarenhas appointed the Friends Life t20 skipper.
Adams, commenting on his new deal, said, “It’s great to be able to commit myself to the club for another year. I feel we have a great core of players and staff and the future is bright so I'm very excited about the next few years. There will be new challenges for all of us, starting with trying to get first division cricket back at The Rose Bowl.”
Hampshire manager, Giles White added: “As captain and player Jimmy has a big part to play in Hampshire's future. He continues to push himself and develop his game through good honest hard work, and we look forward to seeing what he can achieve in the coming seasons.”
