ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier Group A, Abu Dhabi
Scorecard
Afghanistan took a step closer to the Super Four stage of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier by taking a 14-run win over Scotland on day two of the competition.
Noor Ali top scored with 42 as Afghanistan posted 131 for seven and in reply, Scotland, who lost on day one to the USA, could only muster 117 for nine.
Ali faced 37 balls, hitting four fours and a six while Mohammad Shahzad chipped in with 30 and Raees Ahmadzai made an unbeaten 17 to bolster the Afghan batting effort after Kyle Coetzer picked up three for 25 and Gordon Drummond two for 14 from his four overs.
Scotland were then reduced to eight for two early in their reply, Coetzer (2) and Navdeep Poonia (0) the men to fall but Scotland looked in good shape when Gavin Hamilton (32) and Neil McCallum (38) were putting on 66 for the third wicket but once those two were dismissed, Hamid Hasan ripped through the lower order with three for 32 and Mohammad Nabi continued his good tournament with two for 27 to leave Scotland floundering.
Afghanistan play their final game against the USA on Thursday while Scotland play Ireland in their final group game.
