A special mention this week must go to Bedford Park CC swing bowler Alan Thomas who defied his youthful 60 years to take his first ever hat-trick in league cricket (Southport & District league) last Saturday (9th July).

The Birkdale Boomerang, as he is affectionately known, did it against Aughton CC with the help of a catch and two inswinging yorkers - and this after being hit for a four and a six in his first over.

He finished with five wickets in the game as did his opening partner Pete Hughes as Aughton were bowled out for just 29 and in reply Bedford Park reached their target for the loss of just one wicket.

The former Crossens CC and Banks CC legend aims to prolong his 51-year cricketing career even further and has no plans to retire just yet, stating that there is still plenty of life left in the oldest swinger in town.
