Amla, Philander Passed Fit For South Africa

Hashim Amla has recovered from his thigh strain and is fit to take on Pakistan

South Africa have been presented with boost ahead of the first Test against Pakistan in Johannesburg with Vernon Philander and Hashim Amla passed fit to play.

Left-arm spinner Robin Peterson remains in doubt, however, after he split the webbing on his right hand during the One-Day International series defeat to New Zealand.

With Imran Tahir added to the squad as cover, South Africa will allow Peterson more time before deciding on his participation at The Wanderers.

Philander missed the second Test against New Zealand with a hamstring strain and Amla then suffered a thigh strain and missed the final two ODIs.

Team manager Dr. Mohammed Moosajee explained: "Robbie had a light training session this afternoon to allow the hand more time to recover. It’s still too early to make a call on his availability for the Test match, but we are looking at Wednesday after practice or early Thursday morning."
