Hampshire left-arm spinner Danny Briggs has been ruled out England's Twenty20 Internationals in New Zealand after suffering a sprained ankle in Dharamshala.

Briggs, 21, was injured druring training for England's fifth and final One-Day International against India, which he will now miss as well as the tour of New Zealand, and the Lions tour of Australia.

Yorkshire batsman and off-spinner Joe Root has replaced Briggs in England's Twenty20 squad with a replacement in the Lions squad set to be named at a later date by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Briggs has played a single ODI and three Twenty20 Internationals for England but could face a long wait for his fifth international appearance.

Former Essex and Kent cricketer Mike Denness, who played for Scotland and captained England, has passed away aged 72 after a long battle with cancer.
