There were wins for Afghanistan, Ireland, New Zealand and the West Indies over Hong Kong, USA, Zimbabwe and Papua New Guinea respectively in the latest Under-19 World Cup games in New Zealand.
Home side New Zealand were too strong for Zimbabwe, reaching 140 for three with Harry Boam hitting 58, to cruise home after Zimbabwe were bowled out for 135. Scorecard
Papua New Guinea gave a good account of themselves against the West Indies before the more experienced side from the Caribbean prevailed by five wickets. PNG were bowled out for 187 and it took an innings of 82 from Kraigg Brathwaite to steady the West Indies after they lost early wickets before they got home. Scorecard
Ireland rounded off the initial group stage with a thumping five-wicket win over USA. After USA were bowled out for 217, Paul Stirling thumped 114 in 102 balls to set up Ireland's victorious run chase. Scorecard
An unbeaten 90 from Javed Ahmadi guided Afghanistan to an eight-wicket success against Hong Kong. Despite 46 from Ashish Gadhia and Afghanistan leaking 16 wides, Hong Kong could muster only 137, which did not prove too much of a challenge for Afghanistan, who raced home with 19 overs to spare.
