New Zealand Invitational XI 234 (Young 75) & 24-1 v
Pakistanis 286 (Fawad Alam 77, Imran Farhat 52)
Tour match, day two, Queenstown
Top-order batsmen Fawad Alam and Imran Farhat scored half-centuries to hand the touring Pakistanis a narrow lead over a New Zealand Invitational XI in their four-day tour match in Queenstown.
The home side were bowled out on day one for 234 with Abdur Rauf picking up four wickets and were 24 for one in their second innings in reply to the Pakistani effort of 286.
Fawad (77) and Farhat (52) put on 97 for the second wicket having lost Khurram Manzoor for one late on the opening day and that set the stage for them to gain a first-innings lead.
However, despite a number of batsmen getting starts, they were the only two who could go on and score half-centuries with the next best score being 37 from wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed and 21, the score achieved by captain Mohammad Yousuf and Umar Akmal.
The New Zealand side kept Pakistan in check with regular wickets, Daryl Tuffey, Iain O'Brien, Tim Southee and Tarun Nethula all grabbing a brace.
When the home side batted again, they hadn't reach parity before Craig Cumming was caught by Sarfraz off of Rauf for 16.
Pakistan's first Test of three against New Zealand begins in Dunedin on 24th November.
