Fast bowlers Shane Bond and Daryl Tuffey have returned to the New Zealand Test squad ahead of their first match against Pakistan in Dunedin next week.
The first game in the three-match series begins on 24th November and both Bond and Tuffey have already featured in the One-Day International team since returning from the Indian Cricket League (ICL) and with Kyle Mills ruled out through injury, both could return to Test cricket as the New Zealand selectors named a 13-man squad for the first two Tests of the series.
Batsman Peter Fulton and all-rounder Grant Elliott also earn recalls while if selected, Tuffey would play his first Test since 2004 while Bond last played in 2007.
Elliott has recovered from the fractured finger he picked up in the Champions Trophy and Fulton adds experience to the batting line-up.
“Grant Elliott’s inclusion is based on his excellent form in the short version of the game – we’re keen to give him an opportunity to perform in Tests,” selector Mark Greatbatch explained.
“Peter Fulton makes his comeback based on excellent performances on winter tours with the Emerging Players and New Zealand A teams – as well as an outstanding start to the domestic Plunket Shield competition.”
New Zealand: Daniel Vettori (captain), Shane Bond, Grant Elliott, Daniel Flynn, Peter Fulton, Martin Guptill, Chris Martin, Brendon McCullum, Tim McIntosh, Iain O'Brien, Jeetan Patel, Ross Taylor, Daryl Tuffey
