New Zealand 276-6 (Taylor 94, Guptill 60) v Pakistan
Scorecard
First Test, Dunedin, day one

Ross Taylor and Martin Guptill scored half-centuries as New Zealand closed day one of the opening Test against Pakistan in Dunedin on 276 for six.

Pakistan won the toss and chose to field and struck with the first ball of the match when Tim McIntosh was bowled by Mohammad Aamer and within the first hour of play they were celebrating again as Mohammad Asif marked his comeback by having Daniel Flynn caught by Kamran Akmal for eight.

Guptill (60) and Taylor (94) then put on 117 for the third wicket to haul New Zealand back into contention, Guptill facing 142 deliveries and getting into the afternoon session before he offered a catch to Fawad Alam, Mohammad Aamer the bowler.

Peter Fulton (29) and Grant Elliott (8) fell to Asif and Taylor's 174-ball effort was ended when he was caught by Imran Farhat as off-spinner Saeed Ajmal picked up a wicket.

From 211 for six, Brendon McCullum (25) and Daniel Vettori (40) guided New Zealand to stumps without further loss, Vettori given an early reprieve when he was dropped by Farhat with the score on 213.

McCullum was given out lbw to Asif from the penultimate delivery of the day but a successful appeal under the Umpire Review System saw him reprieved, the ball just striking him outside the line.

Asif finished the day with three for 76, Aamer two for 62 and Ajmal one for 49. Umar Gul, the only other bowler used, went wicketless.
