Tour game, Canterbury, day one
Shane Watson lashed 95 and Mike Hussey found some form as Australia enjoyed a good batting workout on day one of their tour match against the England Lions at Canterbury.
Watson smashed 95 in 85 balls with 15 fours and one six while Hussey made 65 and Australia declared on 340 for nine, bowling nine overs at the Lions, who closed on 23 without loss.
Simon Katich (2) and Marcus North (18) fell cheaply while captain Ricky Ponting made 45 before becoming one of two victims for Warwickshire fast bowler Chris Woakes. Glamorgan's James Harris also took two wickets before Lancashire's left-arm spinner Gary Keedy picked up three for 70 by removing Mitchell Johnson (15), Brett Lee (13) and Stuart Clark (23).
Nathan Hauritz was unbeaten on 34 and Peter Siddle was on 14 when Ponting called time on their innings.
Stephen Moore, on 19, and Joe Sayers, on three, survived four overs apiece from Siddle and Lee and an over of spin from Hauritz.
Australia take on England in the fifth Ashes Test starting on Thursday 20th August with the series locked at 1-1.
