Shane Watson hammered a world record 15 sixes in an innings of 185 not out in just 96 balls that hurried Australia to a stunning nine-wicket win over Bangladesh in the second One-Day International in Mirpur. Watson's innings, a new career-best, saw Australia overhaul Bangladesh's score of 229 for seven in just 26 overs as they sealed the series by going 2-0 up with a game to play.
Australia captain Michael Clarke has been named as the Cricket World® Player Of The Week after he scored a century in leaing his side to a 60-run win over Bangladesh in Mirpur. Having taken over the reigns from Ricky Ponting, Clarke led by example and asserted himself on the opening One-Day International with a fine innings of 101 in 111 balls.
Michael Clarke scored a century in his first game since taking over as captain as Australia overwhelmed Bangladesh to win the first One-Day International in Mirpur by 60 runs. In a woefully one-sided contest, Clarke's 101 enabled Australia to post 270 for five before Bangladesh limped to 210 for five in reply having seldom looked like threatening the target.
Cricket Australia have named Michael Clarke as the successor to Ricky Ponting as captain of their Test and One-Day International teams. All-rounder Shane Watson has been named as his vice-captain while Ponting has been picked to tour Bangladesh for three One-Day Internationals next month.
Bangladesh have made a number of changes in naming a 14-man squad to take on Australia in three One-Day Internationals next month. Following their disappointing first-round exit at the World Cup, fast bowler Mashrafe Mortaza makes a return from injury while Alok Kapali has been recalled having not played an ODI since September 2008.
