Bailey, Johnson, Warner In Ashes Squad
George Bailey, Mitchell Johnson and David Warner have been included in Australia's squad for the first Ashes Test against England in Brisbane later this month.
Bailey and Johnson were not part of the squad that toured England earlier this year but have forced their way in through performing strongly in other formats.
Although Warner did play in England, he was subsequently left out of One-Day International squads but has also benefited from a strong run of form for New South Wales.
Shane Watson is included in the squad despite suffering a hamstring strain during the recent ODI tour of India and Australia's policy of closely monitoring the fitness of Michael Clarke, Ryan Harris and Peter Siddle means they are all in the 12-man squad.
Bailey is the only uncapped member of the squad, although he has captained Australia in both Twenty20 and One-Day International cricket and is not short of experience.
As National Selector John Inverarity explained, the squad shows few changes from the last Test Australia played, at The Oval.
"Ten players who represented Australia in its most recent Test match, which was at the Oval in August, have been retained in this squad," he said. "Mitchell Starc is unavailable due to injury and he has been replaced by Mitchell Johnson.
"We have included George Bailey in this line-up and are excited by what he can offer at Test level. George has shown outstanding international form over the past 20 months, including the recent limited-overs series in India. He is calm and composed and comes into the squad full of confidence.
"Mitchell Johnson has been bowling impressively in recent times. He has good rhythm and is generating good pace.
"James Faulkner has retained his place in the squad and his all-round development over the past five months has been most noticeable and pleasing.
"As selectors we are confident that this squad will provide options for a well-balanced XI that will acquit itself very well in Brisbane," Inverarity said.
The first Test gets underway at the Gabba on 21st November.
