Kings XI Punjab have confirmed that Australia's Twenty20 International captain George Bailey will lead their side for the 2014 season, which gets underway in April.
Bailey was bought by the Kings XI for Rs 3.25 crore during the auction in Bangalore.
"We are delighted to have George Bailey as a captain to lead the team," a Kings XI statement read.
"He is a great cricketer who has showcased his leadership skills as a captain of Australian cricket team as well.
"We are hopeful that his performance and guidance will lead the team to great success this season."
And Bailey, who has previously played for the Chennai Super Kings between 2009 and 2012, says he is looking forward to the challenge.
"I am extremely honoured and excited to lead Kings XI Punjab this season," he said.
"I would like to thank the franchisee for having faith in me and entrusting me this opportunity.
"I hope to live upto the expectations of the franchise and its fans and I am looking forward to playing with some of the finest cricketers in the team."
The Kings XI reached the semi-finals of the first IPL tournament in 2008 but have since failed to reach the semi-finals or play-offs.
In 2011, they were expelled prior to the start of the season, only to be reinstated, going on to finish in fifth place in the table, only just missing out on a play-off spot.
