Ben Stokes and Shardul Thakur picked three wickets apiece as Rising Pune Supergiant restricted Royal Challengers Bangalore to 134 for nine in a chase of 162 runs to win the 17th game of Indian Premier League at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium by 27 runs.
Bangalore won the toss and decided to field first. Ajinkya Rahane (30) and Rahul Tripathi (31) gave a brisk start of 55 runs in the powerplay as they hit seven boundaries and a six between them combined.
Samuel Badree (1-32) provided the breakthrough when he castled Rahane and Tripathi soon followed his opening partner leaving Pune at 69 for two. Steven Smith (27) and MS Dhoni (28) tried to keep the innings but the momentum was lost during their stand of 58 runs which came at over six an over.
In the end, Manoj Tiwary (27) played a decisive 11-ball cameo to help Rising Pune Supergiant post 161 for eight in the 20 overs.
Despite losing Mandeep Singh (0) in the second over to Thakur (3-35), Bangalore consolidated to a decent position with Virat Kohli (28) and AB de Villiers (29) in action.
However, the Bangalore captain holed out to sweeper cover to give Stokes (3-18) his first wicket and it provided decisive as the rest of the innings failed to gather momentum.
Thakur and Stokes picked three wickets each while Jaydev Unadkat (2-25) and Imran Tahir (1-27) were the other wicket-takers as Bangalore were kept down to 134 for nine. Stokes was awarded the player of the match for his brilliant bowling effort.
