In-form Warwickshire batsman has replaced Durham all-rounder Ben Stokes in the England Lions squad to play the touring West Indians in Northampton.

Ahead of the four-day game which begins on 10th May, Stokes has been ruled out with a back injury.

Bell's good form this season includes a score of 120 against Stokes' Durham in his recentmost LV= County Championship match at Edgbaston.

"It is unforturnate that Ben’s injury has ruled him out of the match against West Indies," National Selector Geoff Miller said.

"Ian Bell was keen to play another game ahead of the Investec Test series and after performing well for Warwickshire this week this match provides an ideal opportunity for him to continue his preparations as well as helping to ensure England Lions prove challenging opposition for West Indies."

England Lions squad: James Taylor (captain), Jonathan Bairstow, Ian Bell, Jack Brooks, Michael Carberry, Matt Coles, Nick Compton, Jade Dernbach, Simon Kerrigan, Stuart Meaker, Samit Patel, Joe Root
