Ben Harmison Awarded NBC Denis Compton Award
Ben Harmison has been named as Durham County Cricket Club's recipient of this year's NBC Denis Compton Award. The award identifies 'The Most Promising Young Player' at each of the 18 first class counties each year.
Ben won the award in 2004 and has continued his successful progression from the Academy to the A team and into the first eleven following his first class debut for Durham against Oxford UCCE at The Parks in May this year, where he scored a century.
On receiving the award Ben Harmison said, "I'm really proud that my hard work has paid off this season, there's certainly more to come but I definitely think I've made a big step forward. Making my first class debut was a brilliant experience and I've got a taste for it so I'll be pushing for a permanent place next season."
Head Coach Martyn Moxon said, "Ben thoroughly deserves to receive this award. There was plenty of competition in the squad this year with plenty of exciting performances from Garry Park, Gary Scott and Graham Onions but Ben certainly has shown a great deal of dedication and commitment to break into the first team this year."
