23rd January 2011, HMV Forum, Kentish Town, NW5 1JY. www.comedyofashes.co.uk £15 Tickets

Having pasted the Aussies pretty convincingly in The Ashes and with the England cricket team and Barmy Army in still in full voice, much is at stake for the fight to win the inaugural Comedy of Ashes. Taking place on 23rd January 2011 at the HMV Forum in Kentish Town, London, Rufus Hound will umpire the match between Brit comedians, Adam Bloom, winner of
Time Out’s Best Stand Up Award & Gordon Southern famed from The Comedy Network, as they take on Aussie counterparts, Matthew Hardy, Australia’s Best New Comic & Colin Cole arguably one of the Aussie’s favourite comedians, to take home the Comedy Of Ashes and crown their country as the Comedy Kingdom!

Alastair Cook may well be the hero of the nation where cricket is concerned but on 23rd of January a much bigger title will be awarded to either England or Australia as the audience votes for the winner of the Comedy Of Ashes.

The inaugural event will cause yet more rivalry between the two nations as Adam Bloom and Gordon Southern do their best to rubbish Australian comedians Matthew Hardy & Colin Cole and their country. Rufus Hound will have a battle on his hands after such an eventful week of Cricket as sparks will be flying between wickets and comedians!

Tickets are available from www.comedyofashes.co.uk and are just £15 p/p for a host of phenomenal entertainment from the best comedians from each end of the globe. Doors opening at 6pm and closing at 11pm offers an entire night of country bashing and laughs throughout the nations. Audiences will be voting on the most entertaining country to keep the Comedy of Ashes on their home turf. After such a disappointing show from the Australian cricketers this week Matthew and Colin will be fighting to save a shred of pride for their country.

No doubt Hound, Bloom and Southern will be using the weeks events as valuable ammunition for the comedy off. Comparing the event is Rufus Hound, one of Britain’s best loved comics, starring in a host of television shows from Top of the Pops to Richard & Judy Hound has found a permanent place in many hearts from home. Appearing on the popular comedy series celebrity juice Hound has just had the pleasure of entertaining Britain’s sweetheart Cheryl Cole!

Up to bat first from Britain will be Adam Bloom, undoubtedly one of the most exciting and original stand-up comedians of our times. Performing at six Edinburgh Festivals and selling out a 29 date tour around Britain Bloom is very much in demand. Joining Adam on the England team is Gordon Southern who has performed all over the world from Ireland to the Far East. Being an original on shows such as The Big Breakfast and Jim Tavaret in Cabaret, Southern will be a familiar face among the audience.

Aussie supporters will be out in force to cheer along Matthew Hardy & Colin Cole as they do battle with Britain’s finest. Hardy, a Australian born and bread, is regularly heard on Australia’s hottest sports radio network (SEN). A regular at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival expats will be scrabbling for tickets to see the Aussie legend just days before Australia Day. Joining Hardy will be Colin Cole, arguably one of the biggest names in Australian comedy. After touring extensively in the US, Canada and Hawaii Cole is back in Britain representing his country in the greatest comedy battle of the year.

Paul Bondsfield from Round The World Experts says:

“Round The World Experts is proud to be associated with The Comedy of Ashes. As a company with strong Aussie roots there are mixed feelings about the cricket, but as the best outcome of a round the world big adventure is that you have fun, we reckon a gentle ribbing and a few laughs is well worth supporting! As the UK’s biggest round the world specialist we’re well aware of the positive affect sport can have in bringing people together from widely different background. From the huge set piece events like The Ashes right down to the kick-about with some local kids on a dusty bit of ground somewhere way off the beaten track, participating in or watching sport is only equalled by music as a way to surpass cultural language barriers that could otherwise keep us apart.”
