Australian fast bowler Jackson Bird is set to return to Australia from India for precautionary scans on his back after reporting back pain.
Not selected for the first Test in Chennai, Bird has lower back pain and if he is given the all-clear in Australia, will return to India ahead of the rest of the series.
"Jackson has reported some low level back pain and we feel the best course of action to determine the issue is to send him back to Australia for scans," Cricket Australia team doctor Peter Brukner.
"If the scans come back clear then he will return to India to take up his place with the squad."
Bird made his Test debut against Sri Lanka late last year, playing in both the second and third Tests in Melbourne and Sydney. He took 11 wickets at an average of 16.18.
