Australian left-arm fast bowler Doug Bollinger is to return home after an ankle injury ended his participation in the Cricket World Cup.

He has been struggling with ankle pain since arriving in India and Cricket Australia (CA) have made the decision to remove him from their 15-man squad.

“Doug Bollinger has been experiencing increasing left ankle pain since arriving in India," CA physio Alex Kountouris explained.

"Unfortunately the pain is now significantly affecting his ability to bowl and he will not be playing any further part in the tournament.

"Doug will now return to Australia and seek specialist opinion to determine the best course of management for this injury."

The Australian selectors will now decide on a replacement and must wait for International Cricket Council (ICC) approval before the change can be made.
