NUSC build up to an exciting six month summer season gained a major new boost with the unveiling of a specialist training camp programme coordinated by Ronny Boyd in Sunderland.

Ronny, an ECB professional Level 3 coach and groundsman at Ashbrooke Sports Club has arranged specialist training camps at the venue before each Hilton Newcastle Gateshead Championship to ensure the players as well prepared as possible.  Ronny has also pulled in his contacts at the Sticky Wicket Restaurant to provide dinner for the players and long suffering parents who loyally drive their players all over the North East.

Ronny commented that “I have always promised NUSC all support possible for their events and in creating these training camps I passionate believe it gives the players an enjoyable opportunity to meet up and develop their team spirit.  Having seen the players, NUSC have some exciting talents and with a little fine tuning they could cause a few surprise results in 2009”

John D Holland Director of Cricket for NUSC added “Ronny gesture is a shining example of community spirit and I can only thank him on behalf of all players, sponsors and supporters of NUSC for allowing us the best possible preparation for what will be a very challenging six months of Hilton Newcastle Gateshead backed championships”

Monday saw the first training camp at Ashbrooke in wonderful sunshine with the players working long into the evening on their skills in particular their fielding which saw dramatic improvement.

In a stunning upset the NUSC cricketers regained the much coveted Hilton Newcastle Gateshead Cricket Championship trophy with a 2 matches to 0 scoreline over their Irish counterparts from Leinster . Unseasonable weather ensured just two of the four scheduled matches were played although this allowed for a rare opportunity for sightseeing, indoor training at Durham CCCs ground and for a training session with the Durham CCC 1st X1 squad prior to their match with Lancashire Lightning in the Twenty20 Cup.

Northern Universities Student Club-Community Cricketers Elite (NUSC) sponsored by Hilton Newcastle Gateshead completed the final session of 2010 of their Winter Training Programme (WTP 2011) on Saturday. After the snow of the previous two weeks, the students were met by the welcome surprise of sunshine and warm conditions which certainly helped to improve their mood. It might have been the final session but that simply meant work, more work and hard work faced the players as weather delays meant two weeks work went into one.
