New Zealand fast bowler Doug Bracewell has been ruled out of the first Test against England with the foot injury he sustained at the weekend.

He suffered the unusual injury while clearing up after a house party, and New Zealand Cricket have reminded Bracewell of his obligations as an international player.

bet365 have responded to the injury news by making England 8/13 favourites for the opening Test with New Zealand available at 9/1 and the draw is a 7/4 shot.

"We've told Doug that he needs to take responsibility for what happens around him and that he needs to do all he can to ensure his preparation for international cricket is not compromised," manager Mike Sandle said.

"Doug is very sorry for any inconvenience he has caused his team-mates and members of the public, and he has apologised to his neighbour in Napier."

Ian Butler has been added to the squad as cover for Bracewell and could be in line for his first Test match since 2004 if he is selected.

Neil Wagner, who was added to the squad before Bracewell's injury, is also in contention for the match in Dunedin, which starts tomorrow (6th March).
