MCC have announced that Derek Brewer is to be the next Chief Executive of the Club. He will become the fifteenth person to hold the post.

The MCC Committee met this morning and unanimously ratified Brewer’s appointment, which had been recommended by the group tasked with finding Keith Bradshaw’s successor. The group was led by MCC Chairman, Oliver Stocken.

Brewer, an MCC Member since 1976, succeeded David Collier as Chief Executive of Nottinghamshire CCC in 2005. In his time at Trent Bridge he has overseen the successful development of a new stand and the club has won the County Championship twice. In 2011 he took Nottinghamshire to Abu Dhabi to play MCC in the floodlit Champion County match using the pink ball.

MCC Chairman, Oliver Stocken, said:

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Derek Brewer to the post of Chief Executive of MCC. He was an outstanding candidate in an incredibly strong field, and is the right person to take the Club forward.

“Derek will now oversee the finest cricket ground in the world and will have the responsibility to ensure MCC continues to act as a progressive and independent force for the good of cricket everywhere. It’s a wonderful opportunity and a challenge to which the Committee is confident he will rise.”
MCC President, Phillip Hodson, said:

“We were looking for someone with a successful track record of running organisations and CEO experience, ideally from within the cricket world. We wanted a strategic thinker, with a passion for the game – Derek fulfilled all the criteria, and more.

“Previously, he has worked closely with Colin Maber – the incoming Chairman of MCC’s Estates committee – to create, at Trent Bridge, what I consider to be the second-best Test ground in the country. The development of both Nottinghamshire CCC and Trent Bridge in his time at Chief Executive was hugely impressive. The ECB’s award of the Gold A package of major matches to Nottinghamshire was, I believe, testament to his excellent work and strong leadership.”
Commenting on his appointment, Derek Brewer said:

“I am very excited and honoured to have been selected as the next Chief Executive of MCC. Lord’s is the most iconic Test Match Venue in the world and I look forward to bringing the experience I have gained in leading the Trent Bridge redevelopment to opportunities which lie ahead at Lord’s.

“I know that I inherit a very strong team and, having worked closely with Keith Bradshaw during his tenure, I would like to pay tribute to his outstanding contribution.

“I would also like to thank the Nottinghamshire committee, staff and local partners for making the past seven years at Trent Bridge so enjoyable and successful. Trent Bridge, like Lord’s, is a special place.”
Peter Wright, Brewer’s chairman at Nottinghamshire was effusive in his praise for his departing Chief Executive:

“Derek has been a tremendous CEO for Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club and much has been achieved during his tenure of office, culminating in the recent award of major matches by ECB, including Ashes Test matches in 2013 and 2015.”

As Chief Executive of MCC, Derek Brewer will be tasked with leading the redevelopment of Lord’s, building the Club’s revenues for investment in the game, and growing the Lord’s brand in the UK and abroad. He will ensure MCC maintains its position as the pre-eminent and most active cricket club in the world, and continues as the Guardian of the Laws and Spirit of Cricket.

It is intended that Brewer will take up his position in early April 2012.
