Brisbane Heat 153-4 (Peirson 43) beat
Sydney Thunder 149-4 (Watson 56) by six wickets DLS
8th match, Big Bash League, Brisbane
Nine ball cameos from Chris Lynn and Alex Ross proved vital as Brisbane Heat chased down 151 runs against Sydney Thunder with six wickets in hand in the rain hit 17-over per side game of the Big Bash League at The Gabba.
The target for Brisbane Heat was revised to 151 in 17 overs but they suffered a setback when Mitchell McClenaghan (2-45) castled his former team-mate in the second over.
Lynn (25) struck four boundaries and a six in his nine-ball knock but was dismissed by Shane Watson (1-13) in the sixth over. Jimmy Peirson (43) who was going under 100 strike-rate finally opened up as he struck three boundaries and a six to take the total to 91 for two after 10 overs.
A couple of tight overs from Arjun Nair (1-19) saw the required run rate go past 10 and in the process he also dismissed Peirson.
The Thunder failed to build on the pressure as they handed Joe Burns (45 not out) a reprieve but the decisive knock came from Ross (25 not out) as he smashed two apiece of fours and sixes including a boundary in the penultimate delivery that saw Aiden Blizzard drop him.
Earlier, it was a blistering half-century from Watson (56) that set the tone for the Thunder innings which was halted briefly due to rain and the game was reduced to 17 overs per side. Callum Ferguson (37) too played a handy role while the late flourish came from a nine-ball cameo from Ben Rohrer (16 not out).
