England have been dealt another blow in their attempt to win the One-Day International series against India after Stuart Broad, who was due to join the squad for the final two games, was left stranded at Heathrow Airport because of heavy snowfall.
Large parts of England have been covered in around 5-10cm of snow over the past week, with London and the south-east particularly badly affected over the past few days. With the forecast not set to improve for at least 48 hours, Broad would have struggled to be in India in time for the fourth ODI on Wednesday so it has been decided that he should not travel at all.
Broad tweeted: "Gutted I can't get to India. I'm off home with all my luggage at Heathrow. I'll be waiting for the lads in New Zealand!!"
The first warm-up match on England’s tour of New Zealand is on 4th February. Broad will then hope to get a career which has seen a significant setback this winter due to injury and loss of form back on track by leading England in the first of two Twenty20 Internationals on the 9th February.
England One-Day International squad: Alastair Cook (captain), Ian Bell, Tim Bresnan, Danny Briggs, Jos Buttler, Jade Dernbach, Steven Finn, Craig Kieswetter, Stuart Meaker, Eoin Morgan, Samit Patel, Kevin Pietersen, Joe Root, James Tredwell, Chris Woakes.
