England and Durham seamer Graham Onions is an injury doubt for the fifth and final Ashes Test after he broke a finger while playing for Durham.

Onions was named in the squad for the fourth Ashes Test at Chester-le-Street, his home ground, but he missed out on selection.

Returning to his county side, he broke the little finger on his right hand while attempting to take a catch off his own bowling in a 40-over match against Scotland.

"Graham Onions has been ruled out of Durham’s Yorkshire Bank fixtures this week after he suffered a broken finger in yesterday’s match against Scotland," a statement from Durham confirmed.

"Onions has a break in his little finger on his right hand in his knuckle joint which was sustained in an attempt to catch the ball off his own bowling.

"At this stage Onions is hoping to be fit to play in Durham’s next LV=County Championship match against Surrey commencing on Thursday August 22nd."

The fifth and final Ashes Test gets underway one day before that at The Oval.
