Yorkshire and England fast bowler Tim Bresnan has suffered a torn right calf muscle and has been ruled out of England's three-match Test series with Sri Lanka.

Bresnan, who played an integral part in England's success in Australia over the winter when they retained the Ashes, has suffered a recurrence of the injury he picked up against Australia in the first One-Day International earlier this year.

"A rehabilitation and recovery programme will be established in the coming days following further medical assessment," a statement from the England & Wales Cricket Board confirmed.

England are set to name their squad for the first Test, which begins in Cardiff on 26th May, on Sunday, 22nd May.

Sri Lanka continue their tour with a match against the England Lions in Derby from 19th-22nd May.
