Powerful New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder has been ruled out of the Test match against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo with a right calf injury.
Ryder picked up the injury during a warm-up game against a Zimbabwe XI, when he was able to deliver just three balls before struggling with the problem.
“Initially we were hopeful the injury wasn’t too serious but unfortunately the scan showed damage to Jesse’s calf and he will miss the Test match," New Zealand team manager Mike Sandle said.
"He will return to New Zealand to undergo further assessment and a period of rehabilitation.
"Although he isn’t available for our next match the medical team are confident he will be fit for and available for selection for December’s Test series in Australia."
No replacement player has been named for the one-off match, which gets underway on 1st November.
