Catch The ICCWT20 In Barbados With ITC Sports

Cricket fans, sports enthusiasts and those simply looking for an exotic holiday this spring, need look no further than Barbados where some of the key matches of the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 are taking place.

The world’s best cricket teams will be travelling to the West Indies to compete in the gripping tournament, and as the leading host nation, Barbados is proud to be the location for eight group matches from 6-9 May and the final on 16 May, at the spectacular Kensington Oval in Bridgetown. Considered the Mecca of Caribbean cricket, the Kensington Oval is a recently refurbished, state of the art stadium, which has already hosted six of the Super Eights and the Final of the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Two first round qualifying games are being held on Wednesday 5th May: Bangladesh vs Australia and South Africa vs. Afghanistan. The super eights (quarterfinals) will take place Friday 6th May to Saturday 8th May and the semi on Sunday 9th May.  The men and women finals are both being held on Sunday the 16th May.

Located in the hub of the Caribbean, Barbados is an ideal base for the tournament. Long recognised as a world leader in cricket, Barbados has produced some of the world’s finest players. Visiting teams love the island, not just because they are assured of a great cricket atmosphere, but also because the islanders have a genuine love for the game.  Combine this rich heritage in the sport with excellent transport links, advanced infrastructure, a fabulous range of accommodation and superb leisure facilities, and it’s easy to see why Barbados is the perfect place to experience the ICC World Twenty20.

As matches are only for one day, visitors will ample opportunity to explore this iconic holiday island and experience everything it has to offer.  Whatever your level of interest in cricket, the tournament provides the perfect opportunity to have a great holiday with the additional bonus of soaking up the atmosphere and festivities whilst the Twenty20 takes place.

Whilst in Barbados, visitors should take a trip to St. Lawrence Gap with its range of restaurants, diverse accommodation, lively nightlife and fabulous shopping.  Baxter’s Road is another hotspot with its abundance of sports bars, restaurants, rum shops and bakeries, and is also a popular venue at night where nightclubs stay open until the early morning.  Food lovers should make time to visit the Oistins Fish Market on a Friday or Saturday night where they can party with locals to the sweet strains of Calypso music and sample some fantastic traditional Bajan fare such as fish cakes, Jug-Jug (guinea corn and green peas) fried fish and pudding, all washed down with a cool Banks Beer.
