Sri Lanka middle order batsman Chamara Kapugedara has been ruled out of the remainder of the Champions Trophy tournament after sustaining a knee injury.
The injury occurred during a practice session on Wednesday when he was struck on the knee while fielding.
In the game against South Africa, Kapugedara was dismissed for a duck as Sri Lanka succumbed to a 96-run defeat while chasing 300 runs.
A statement released by Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that the 30-year-old will need at least two weeks of rehabilitation period.
"SLC Medical experts have recommended a supervised convalescence of two weeks," the statement read.
Sri Lanka have already lost the services of Upul Tharanga, who has been handed a two match ban for his team's slow over-rate in the game against South Africa with Danushka Gunathilaka expected to take his place in the XI.
Also, Angelo Mathews has confirmed his participation in the game as a batsman and will take the place of Kapugedara in the middle order.
For Sri Lanka to make it to the semi-finals, they will need to win against India and Pakistan in the remaining games of the group stage and hope for the other results to go their way as well.
