The Chennai Super Kings booked their spot in the Indian Premier League final against the Rajasthan Royals after a comprehensive nine-wicket win over the Kings XI Punjab in the second semi-final in Mumbai.
The Kings XI Punjab could make just 112 for eight from their twenty overs, Manpreet Gony, Makhaya Ntini and Albie Morkel taking two wickets each. Ramesh Powar top scored with 28 not out at the death.
An unbeaten century partnership from Parthiv Patel (51 not out) and Suresh Raina (55 not out) ensured that Chennai wrapped up victory in the 15th over with only Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan (six) losing his wicket.
The game was effectively decided once the Kings XI Punjab slumped to 45 for six in the tenth over with Mahela Jayawardene (eight) following Shaun Marsh (23), James Hopes (two), Kumar Sangakkara (three), Yuvraj Singh (four) and Irfan Pathan (three) who all succumbed to an excellent opening bowling effort from the Super Kings.
