Indian Premier League champions Chennai Super Kings marked themselves down as a team to look out for in the Champions League Twenty20 with a crushing 57-run win over Central Districts in their opening match.

After Subramaniam Badrinath's unbeaten 54 had guided them to 151 for four in Durban, they then dismissed the New Zealand side for just 94.

Badrinath's innings was crucial for the Super Kings, who lost Murali Vijay (19), Matthew Hayden (0) and Suresh Raina (4) cheaply haiving won the toss and chose to bat.

Badrinath went on to hit four fours and two sixes and shared useful partnerships with Anirudh Srikkanth (42) and Albie Morkel (26 not out) to steer the Super Kings to a winning score.

Doug Bracewell took two wickets and he would go on to top score for the Central Districts as their innings disintegrated on their way to being dismissed in side 19 overs.

Leading the way for the Super Kings was Lakshmipathy Balaji, who toook three for 20, while there were a pair of wickets apiece for Doug Bollinger, Ravi Ashwin and Muttiah Muralitharan.

Jamie How (13), Mathew Sinclair and Michael Mason (both 10) were the only other players to reach double figures.
