Cricket Australia have confirmed that Michael Clarke is on target for a return to action ahead of this year's Ashes series.
Clarke was forced to pull out of the ongoing One-Day International series in India with a recurrence of a back injury.
However, CA have revealed that he is making good progress and could be back in action when the Sheffield Shield begins next week (30th October) with Clarke's New South Wales in action against Tasmania.
"Michael is progressing well and recently recommenced batting in the nets," CA physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said.
"At this stage we are aiming to have him fit to play the second round of the Bupa Sheffield Shield, but we have not ruled out the possibility of him playing the first round of the Shield season if he makes better than expected progress. We’ll continue to monitor him closely," he added.
The first Ashes Test gets underway in Brisbane on 21st November.
