Cockspur Rum Extends Links With ECB And English Cricket
Cockspur Rum from Barbados where the brand has been produced since 1884, are to become the “Official Spirit of English Test Match Grounds” in a THREE YEAR deal that will see the brand occupying significant advertising placements at the Test Match Grounds from Summer 2008.

The deal brokered by Frontiers Group on behalf of the Test Match Grounds will secure Cockspur exclusivity in the spirits sector as well as a plethora of marketing benefits from international television exposure to product sales and sampling.

Announcing the partnership, Frontiers Group Sales Director Nick Hoyle said “We are delighted to announce Cockspur Rum as Test Match Ground Partner and look forward to welcoming them into the family of partners from 2008. Their enthusiasm and passion for cricket is second to none and we are confident that we will enjoy a very successful and enjoyable relationship”

David Smith, Global Brand Director commenting on the deal after West Indies 20/20 triumph over England at The Brit Oval last night said…

“Cockspur are proud to become Test Match Ground partners for the 2008-2010 domestic international seasons.Cricket is the perfect vehicle for Cockspur to link with as the brand expandas it’s UK business.Cockspur look forward to bringing some Caribbean spirit to the Test Match grounds.”

Cockspur are also extending their sponsorship of the Cockspur Cup through to 2010 with the England and wales Cricket Board.

This year’s Cockspur Cup features 395 clubs across England, Scotland and Wales.
The Final of the Cockspur Cup is scheduled to be played at Lord’s on Monday 10th September, where reigning champions South Northumberland will defend their title.

Along with the prize money of £6,000 for the winners and £3,000 for the runners-up there is an even greater incentive for amateur cricket clubs across the land in 2007.

Both teams contesting the final will be flown to Barbados for the 30th Rumsey Pro Am, also sponsored by Cockspur.

The Pro Am cricket festival was born in 1978, an idea conceived by former Derbyshire and England fast bowler Fred Rumsey.

Over the last thirty years close to a 100 England and West Indies international players have taken part in the Festival.

Most recent hosts have included Darren Gough, Mark Ramprakash, Warren Hegg, Steve Rhodes, Phil De Freitas, Bill Athey, David Capel, Jason Galian and Ian Ward.

Former Essex and Kent cricketer Mike Denness, who played for Scotland and captained England, has passed away aged 72 after a long battle with cancer. He played the majority of his career for Kent before moving to Essex in 1977, retiring in 1980.
