Working with its client, Warwickshire County Cricket Club, and their team of advisers international real estate advisor Savills has helped to secure crucial funding from Advantage West Midlands (AWM) for the new stadium at Edgbaston Cricket Ground. As a result of this funding Birmingham City Council has also agreed to provide funding to the Club enabling construction to begin on site with Galliford Try recently announced as the main contractor on the scheme.
The new stadium will provide a world class facility for Birmingham and is due to open in time for the 2011 Test Match against India.
Barry Allen, director at Savills, comments: “Edgbaston is synonymous with cricket and is an internationally recognised brand. This new stadium secures the future of international cricket and will be a great boost to the profile of the city. The support and funding from AWM and the City Council has been critical. It is one of the more complex transactions that we have been involved in, secured in one of the most difficult economic periods we have known.”
