Fast bowlers Tom Taylor and Ben Cotton have extended their contracts with Derbyshire County Cricket Club, which will keep them at the club till the conclusion of the 2018 season.

Both Taylor and Cotton have attended the Cricket Derbyshire Academy, in partnership with the University of Derby and have made a name for themselves in the first XI.

In the 2016 Royal London One-Day Cup, Cotton is the highest wicket-taker for Derbyshire while Taylor has taken 47 wickets in 18 first-class games in his career since making his debut in 2014.

John Sadler, the head coach of Derbyshire is pleased that they have secured the contract with the duo and is confident that both Taylor and Cotton will play a crucial role as a part pf the team’s bowling attack.

“We have moved to secure the long-term futures of a number of our key players in recent weeks, and the contract extensions for Ben and Tom are no different.

“They are both exciting fast bowlers who have the ability to win games for Derbyshire – and we must remember they’re still only 22 and 21 respectively.

“Both players will play important roles in our bowling unit as they continue to learn and improve their own games.”

In the ongoing County Championship, Derbyshire are currently at the bottom of the points table in Division Two and are yet to win a game after 14 attempts.
