The LV= County Championship Division Two match between Leicestershire and Derbyshire has been postponed for two days after Derbyshire player Tom Poynton was involved in a car crash in which his father died.
The crash has cast a shadow over the start of the English county season, with five games originally scheduled to get underway tomorrow (6th April).
Poynton was injured in the crash, which his father Keith did not survive.
"Yesterday evening, Derbyshire wicketkeeper Tom Poynton was involved in a serious road traffic accident in which tragically, Tom's father, Keith, was killed," a statement from the club said.
"Tom was taken to hospital by ambulance where he was admitted and retained overnight with a suspected fracture and other associated injuries.
"Everyone at the Club are deeply distressed and concerned for Tom and his family.
"In consultation with the ECB and Leicestershire CCC, the decision has been taken to postpone the LV= County Championship Division Two game which was due to start tomorrow at Grace Road.
"The fixture has been provisionally rescheduled to take place on Sunday 8 June to Wednesday 11 June."
