Tournament favourites South Africa have once again choked at a Cricket World Cup – with bookies reporting it one of the biggest chokes in Cricket World Cup history.

With Graeme Smith’s team apparently cruising at 108-2 chasing New Zeland’s 221 Paddy Power were taking bets of just 1/20 for the South African’s to reach the semi finals. However yet another collapse when under pressure saw the Kiwis finish the job when having been as big as 9/1 for victory. South Africa had been 1/3 pre-match favourites to win the game and their run of never winning a knockout game continues.

Darren Haines, cricket betting spokesman for Paddy Power, said: “In betting terms to be 20/1 ON for a victory and still lose is one of the biggest chokes of all time at the Cricket World Cup – even by South Africa’s lofty standards.”

New Zealaand are now 11/2 to go all the way with India the 6/4 favourites.

England v Sri Lanka

England head in to Saturday’s Quarter Final against Sri Lanka the 8/5 outsiders but are proving a popular bet for punters to pull off an upset. Despite playing the Sri Lankans on their home soil a good record against the hosts has tempted many punters into backing the xxx England team.

Paddy Power are also betting on who will be the spin king in the match with Graeme Swann and Muttiah Muralitharan both 5/6 in a head-to-head to take most wickets.
