Cricket Betting: England Confident, Aussies Favourite
England travel to Australia for this winter’s Ashes in confident mood having not lost a series since the 1-0 reverse in the West Indies at the start of 2009 but, despite this recent success, Betfair punters make the Aussies odds-on favourites at 8-11 to regain the famous urn.
Andrew Strauss’ tourists are a 13-5 chance to win the five-Test contest, with a drawn series available at 11-2, a result that would see England retain the Ashes by virtue of winning them on home soil last year.
The series kicks-off in Brisbane on November 25, where Ricky Ponting’s men are Even money to open with a victory. England, at the scene of Steve Harmison’s infamous opening delivery four years ago, are 11-4 to win at the Gabba, with a draw in the state of Queensland available at 16-5.
At odds of 6-1 a 3-1 Australian win is the favourite in the Series Score market, with a 2-1 Aussie victory available at 15-2, and a 3-0 home triumph 11-1.
England are 11-1 to overcome their hosts 2-1, and 12-1 to beat their biggest cricketing rivals by a score of 3-1.
The Australians are noted for their punchy predictions and, once again, have been talking-up their chances of repeating the 5-0 whitewash of four years ago. But punters are not so sure this time around with that scoreline available on Betfair at 15-1, with a 5-0 England win a whopping 75-1.
Betfair’s cricket betting expert Andy Lulham said: “England are enjoying a terrific run of form in the long format of the game, but an Ashes tour Down Under is a totally different prospect. Our customers think Australia will hold the upper hand but, led by the much-respected Andrew Strauss, England aren’t being written off for what would be a first series victory in Australia since 1986-87.”
