England are friendless with punters ahead of the first Test in New Zealand according to Ladbrokes.

The visitors will begin the Test as the odds-on 4/7 favourites but have been shunned in the betting in favour of the bigger price on offer for a home win, with New Zealand being backed into 7/1 from 8/1.

England (1/4) are heavily fancied to wrap up the series with a 3-0 whitewash (5/2), and the firm have been taking bets on the Test team to go unbeaten during 2013 which has been cut to 20/1 (from 25/1) after a flood of bets. Thankfully for punters though the odds suggest their potential winning streak won't come under threat until the first Test of The Ashes at Trent Bridge (9/2).

Joe Root is proving a popular bet at 8/1 to top the batting for England in Dunedin, but it's Kevin Pietersen and Alastair Cook who lead the betting as the joint 7/2 favourites.

Jessica Bridge, cricket betting expert at Ladbrokes said: "It's been one-way traffic for New Zealand and the 8/1 has been hoovered up. Patriotic punters think the 3-0 whitewash is a done deal and with confidence high attention turns to going a full 12 months without loss."
