- Paddy Power’s Ashes Betting Preview -

Punters are backing England to win the Ashes Down Under for the first time since 1986/87 with Paddy Power reporting three times as many bets on Andrew Strauss’ boys compared to the Aussies.

Whilst the bookies make Australia 5/6 favourites to win the urn on home soil, where they have a formidable record, cricket fans are overwhelmingly backing the England win at 7/4 as they see Ricky Ponting’s team seemingly in decline and England on an upward curve.

The most popular scoreline in the betting is a 2-1 England win at 10/1 with 20% of punters having a flutter on the result so far.

Don’t Know What You’re Doing?

Almost unbelievably for Australian cricket, given their dominance of the last 20 years, they don’t appear to know what their best line-up is going into the First Test at The Gabba having named an initial 17 man squad. Paddy Power are betting on how many players the Aussies use through the series with 13 players the most likely at 9/4. Just 11 players is 13/2 whilst 15 or more players is 3/1.
KP & Swann To Soar?

But for England their hopes will rest on their number one bowler and a return to form for their number one batsman. Graeme Swann is just 5/4 to be England’s top wicket taker and 7/2 to be the top bowler in the series whilst Kevin Pietersen is 3/1 to bounce back with two or more centuries in the series but 6/1 to remain in his hole with two or more ducks.
