Cricket Germany have taken to Twitter to jokingly challenge the struggling Australian team to a 'competitive' match in the wake of their 347-run defeat at Lord's.

Australia trail England 2-0 in the five-match Ashes series while Germany play in World Cricket League Division Seven, some six divisions below the top Associates such as Ireland, Scotland and Afghanistan.

It has not been a good weekend for Australia on the social networking site after David Warner distanced himself from tweets his brother sent regarding Shane Watson and then an offensive tweet appeared on the official Cricket Australia feed during the match.

The first tweet gained more than 500 retweets, raising Cricket Germany's profile with some users evidently surprised to discover that Germany has a cricket team.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, there was no response from the official Cricket Australia (@CricketAus) twitter feed.
