Ireland once again underlined their ability to compete with the heavyweights of world cricket, coming close to recording another famous victory over Pakistan but in the end had to settle for a tie in the first One-Day International in Dublin. Paul Stirling's second successive century against Pakistan got Phil Simmons' side off to the perfect start in their pursuit of 276 before Kevin O'Brien's explosive innings of 84 meant the game went into the final over.

Player Of The Week

There can be only two possible contenders for this week's Cricket World Player of the Week award and it is virtually impossible to separate them. Stuart Broad took the man of the match award at Lord's for leading the second innings demolition of New Zealand, but without James Anderson's first innings five-fer there might not have been much of a run chase for the Black Caps on day four.

The demise of Somerset in very much the talking point on the county circuit at the moment, with the county giving further ammunition to their critics by collapsing for 108 to lose inside two days to Sussex. Elsewhere, Worcestershire built on Alan Richardson's eight-wicket haul yesterday thanks to a Moeen Ali century, while Durham took the upper hand over Middlesex.
There were two eight-wicket hauls in the LV= County Championship as the seventh round got into full swing today. Alan Richardson has now taken 20 wickets in his last three bowls after starring against Kent and now Gloucestershire, while Steve Magoffin added to Somerset's Championship woes by leading their humbling for 76.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has unveiled a new and ambitious strategic plan with the goal of delivering successful England teams at all levels, producing a vibrant domestic game and increasing and enthusing participation during the period 2014-17. The latest strategic plan - Champion Counties - has been designed to build on the outstanding success of the 2005 plan - Building Partnerships - and the subsequent 2009 initiative - Grounds to Play.

Cricket's ability to break down barriers and promote social integration was highlighted by ICC Europe at a major European sports conference held in Dublin, Ireland. Nick Pink, Regional Development Manager for ICC Europe, told delegates at the EU Sports Conference of the game’s unifying qualities, before calling for a greater partnership between commercial bodies and governments to develop the sport at grassroots level across Europe.

Former England and Middlesex captain Mike Gatting has appointed as the next MCC President, taking office from 1st October 2013. He was nominated by current President Mike Griffith at the club's Annual General Meeting (AGM). MCC will be celebrating its bicentenary at Lord's in 2014 and next year will also be Middlesex's 150th year anniversary.

Chance To Shine

Geraint Jones will be inspiring the next generation of Kent cricketers in 2013 thanks to a new role with the Kent Cricket Board. England Ashes hero Geraint will be one of the first male Chance to Shine ambassadors in the country and the role will see him attend schools and clubs throughout the year to help introduce children to the game.

The Combined Services Cricket Association has confirmed that the Inter Services Twenty20 Tournament 2013 (IST20 2013) will for the fourth year running be held at Lord's Cricket Ground on Tuesday 18 June 2013. This is the sixth year in a row that Services cricket has been hosted by Marylebone Cricket Club at Lord's, and the fourth year running for the Inter Services Twenty20 Tournament.

Lord's Taverners

Today marked a milestone for The Lord's Taverners, the UK's leading youth cricket and disability sports charity, as it donated a landmark 1,000th minibus to youngsters with special needs and disabilities. The charity's groundbreaking mobility initiative that spans over 37 years was celebrated with Essex CCC as disabled youngsters from Edith Borthwick School, Braintree were presented with their new means of transport which will aid access to the local community.

Michael Lumb joined players from the 16-man England squad at Edgbaston last week as they began preparations for the first ever T20 World Cup for visually impaired cricketers. Warwickshire's Luke Sugg will captain England as they face eight other national teams in Bangalore, India from the 2nd-13th December.

UK Club Cricket News

Manningham Mills are the new leaders of the JCT 600 Bradford League First Division after gaining maximum points as they beat Baildon by 88 runs at Scotchman Road. Opener Adal Islam was top scorer against his old club with 80 not out in Mills' formidable total of 264-5.
Jonny Moxon, son of Yorkshire's Director of Cricket, Martyn Moxon, played a key role with his pace bowling in York’s seven home win against Doncaster Town. Opener Simon Widdup and James Stuart put together a third wicket stand of 147 as Doncaster totalled 221-8 with Widdup hitting 11 fours and two sixes in his 101 while Stuart struck seven fours and two sixes in his innings of 71, Moxon taking 4-34.
In scenes reminiscent of 2012, the entire programme in the North Lancashire and Cumbria Premier and First Divisions was washed out this weekend. The lack of action means that Haverigg (61), Furness (54) and Cleator (50) lead the way at the top of the Premier Division while in the First Division, Egremont are on top with 63 points, Cletaor II are six points behind and Cockermouth II have 54 points in third place.
There were no positive results in the opening weekend of the Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League but Totteridge Milhillians sit on top of the table with 17 points. Old Finchleians come next with 16 and St Albans are third with 11.
