Jake Ball is this week’s Cricket World Player of the Week for his 5-43 in the opening match of the Spec Savers Division 1 County Championship match against Lancashire. He followed this first innings performance with 4-14 in the second innings to reach career best first class match figures of 9-57.

The England and Nottinghamshire bowler took full advantage of the early season conditions at Old Trafford taking the wickets of Hameed, Croft, Clark, Bailey and Onions in the first innings. It was the first 5 fer of the County Championship season and put Nottinghamshire in a good position on Day 2. Nottinghamshire won the match by 6 wickets with Harry Gurney taking 6-25 in the second innings as well and Nottinghamshire eventually winning the match by 6 wickets.

Other contenders were Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals) leading run scorer in the IPL with 178 in three innings and joint leading wicket taker Chris Woakes (Royal Challengers Bangalore) with 7 wickets.

Jake Ball will be looking to maintain a regular place in the England set up this summer as well as helping Nottinghamshire’s campaign in all county cricket format competitions.
