Cricket World® Player Of The Week - Tim Southee

Young New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee has been named as the Cricket World® Player Of The Week after his performances helped New Zealand to a 3-1 One Day International series win over England. The 19-year-old took three for 49 at Lord's in the fifth One Day International and three for 47 in the fourth at The Brit Oval, where he picked up the key wickets of Ian Bell and Kevin Pietersen. His performances since breaking into the side shortly after being named man of the tournament in the Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia has ensured that the loss of strike bowler Shane Bond is not felt too keenly. Southee is one of New Zealand's most promising stars alongside the likes of Jesse Ryder, Daniel Flynn and Grant Elliot. Other contenders for this week's award included Suresh Raina, Kumar Sangakkara, Ajantha Mendis, Shane Watson, Nathan Bracken, Shoaib Malik and Sohail Tanvir. The Cricket World ® Player Of The Week is judged by the Editorial Team, which takes into consideration matches played in the preceding week with the final decision made on Monday morning.
