Indian opener Virender Sehwag has been awarded with the Cricket World® Player Of The Week award after breaking a number of records during his mammoth 319 against South Africa.
During the first Test in Chennai, Sehwag blitzed his 319 in just 304 balls, breaking the record for the fastest ever triple century at more than a run a ball.
He hit 43 fours and five sixes during his innings as he became only the third player in Tests and First Class cricket to score two triple centuries along with Brian Lara and Sir Don Bradman.
This innings was also the highest score by an Indian, beating his own previous high score of 309 against Pakistan.
More records followed as he collect the highest score ever to be hit by any nationality in India.
Sehwag was a worthy winner of this week’s award with this amazing performance. Other contenders for the award were – Tim Southee, as the 19 year old produced a brilliant debut performance as he took five wickets and smashed 77 off 41 balls, which was the quickest ever half century by a New Zealand player. Andrew Strauss also hit 177 to lead England to victory after some previous poor performance and Hashim Amla hit a century and a half century in a match that he was overshadowed by Sehwag’s quality.
The Cricket World ® Player Of The Week is judged by the www.cricketworld.com Editorial Team, which takes into consideration matches played in the preceding week with the final decision made on Monday morning.
