IPL 2011
The Chennai Super Kings blew away the Royal Challengers Bangalore, winning by 58 runs, in the 2011 IPL final at Chennai to clinch the title in emphatic style. This was their second IPL crown in four years of competition and they have made the knock-out stage every single year. For Bangalore this was second time unlucky in the finals after they finished runners-up in 2009.
Chris Gayle earned his sixth man-of-the-match award in the Indian Premier League 2011 after his innings of 89 in 47 balls set up a 43-run win for the Royal Challengers Bangalore over the Mumbai Indians. The result means that Gayle's side will now face reigning champions the Chennai Super Kings in Saturday's final and there will be no dream rematch of the 2010 final and no opportunity for Sachin Tendulkar to add the 2011 IPL crown to his World Cup winner's medal.
The Mumbai Indians beat the Kolkata Knight Riders by four wickets in the Indian Premier League eliminator to win through and get one step closer to the final. It was their second win against the Knight Riders in as many matches and although not quite as dramatic as the final group game, this match also went down to the final over, the home team getting there with four balls to spare.
The Chennai Super Kings left it late but managed to score 59 runs in the final four overs to beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets and make it to the final of the Indian Premier League 2011. Albie Morkel won the match with a six over midwicket off Daniel Vettori with two balls remaining as the Super Kings came from nowhere to take the game - they had needed 66 runs to win from 30 balls.
You have to begin with negatives in this one, writes Chetan Narula. The latest season of the Indian Premier League has simply failed to live up to expectations that have been laid down since three years past. If it were to be said that ratings and fan attendances are at an all-time low, nothing would be wrong for barring the stint in South Africa, 2008 and 2010 were fairly successful times for the IPL.
The Mumbai Indians stole a win on the last ball of the last league match of the 2011 Indian Premier League, winning by five wickets at Kolkata and with this victory, Mumbai pipped Kolkata to finish third in the league and the hosts would be very flushed about this loss, for it cost them a potential second chance to qualify for the finals.
