All-rounder Alex Cusack has been recalled by Ireland for the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier and Intercontinental Cup final after recovering from a back injury.

Cusack was unavailable for the One-Day International against England and the series of matches that followed against Scotland but is now fit to return.

Despite Eddie Richardson impressing when given a chance as Cusack's replacement, his return is a huge boost to Ireland as he was named as the player of the tournament at the 2010 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier.

Andrew McBrine, John Mooney and James Shannon are the only players in the squad for this year's qualifier in Dubai that didn't travel to Sri Lanka for the 2012 ICC World Twenty20.

And although Andrew White is absent, he will be part of the squad that takes on Afghanistan in the Intercontinental Cup final in December.

He has scored more runs than any other Irish player in Intercontinental Cup cricket, with 1,502 to his name, ahead of Andre Botha (1,352), Niall O'Brien (1,155) and William Porterfield (1,122).

"There's no secret that I like a lot of experience in my squads and this one's no different," Ireland coach Phil Simmons said.

"Most of the guys have played in World Cup finals and are used to pressure, which always comes with these qualifying tournaments.

"It's good to have Alex back in the frame. He's an intelligent cricketer and a very canny bowler to have especially in the power-plays. He mixes his pace up well and can be difficult to read for the batsmen.

"We also have John Mooney fit again after he missed the Scotland matches, so we've plenty of options in the bowling department. Eddie Richardson's probably a little unlucky to miss out, but we have a lot of all-rounders in our ranks.

"Andrew McBrine deserves an opportunity. He's done very well this season and his bowling will be a useful asset on the slower pitches in the UAE.

"It was difficult to leave Andrew White out of the T20 squad, but he hasn't played much for us in the format, and the selectors felt that it was a good chance to take a look at some of the other contenders. He's been one of our main performers in the longer form of the game, so he'll be back for the InterContinental Cup final against Afghanistan."

The World Twenty20 Qualifier in Dubai lasts from 15th to 30th November while the Intercontinental Cup final is scheduled to get underway on 11th December.
